The Inter-WACN Roaming Feature

Dynamic Regrouping is blocked when the radio is registered on a foreign WACN / Trunking System, and the radio's channel selector cannot be locked. The radio may only be dynamically-regrouped while registered on its Home WACN / Trunking System. However, if the radio is dynamically-regrouped and subsequently roams to a foreign System, then the radio remains regrouped; however, the radio's channel selector will become unlocked when the radio roams to the foreign system.

All Call features (phone, status, private calls, call alerts) are blocked when the radio is registered on a foreign WACN / Trunking System.

When the Scan Type is "Multi-System Talkgroup", foreign talkgroups are not allowed in the Scan List Members' channels.

Motorola's X2-TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) protocol is not supported with Inter-WACN Roaming (see the X2 Voice Capable field).

DVRS (Digital Vehicular Repeater System) operation is not compatible with Inter-WACN Roaming.

The Trunking System's Validate NAC Against System ID must be disabled to be considered valid.

The Trunking System's WUID Validity Support field must be disabled to be considered valid.

Do the following for any Trunking Systems intending to have CPS-defined channels communicating in an Inter-WACN Roaming scenario:

1. On the Trunking System, General Page, set the value of the System ID field to match the "Key ID" of one of the loaded Advanced System Keys (see the System Key Report).

2. Set the Coverage Type of the current Trunking System to “Inter-WACN Roaming”.

3. Ensure that the Home WACN ID and the Unit ID are also set to their appropriate values. The combination of the Home WACN ID, the System ID, and the Unit ID, known as the Subscriber Unit ID (SUID) identifies a radio and its Home System as it roams within a given Wide Area Communications Network. See also Working Unit ID (WUID).

4. When Site Aliasing is enabled on a given Trunking System, ensure that the Home RAS WACN Number, the System Number, the RFSS Alias Number and the Site ID are set to their appropriate values for each Site that may be encountered as the radio roams. This allows the radio user to view descriptive Site Alias Text, identifying the radio's currently-registered Site, with a Site Display / Srch button-press.

When the Site Alias Type is set to "System", only the Home RAS WACN Number and the System Number are required. The radio may then use this "System alias" to display the System Alias / Site ID of the currently-registered site when the radio roams to a different System/WACN, or it may use this System Alias to build PTT IDs identifying calls that originate from foreign radios where an individual alias is not defined.

5. For each Trunking Personality's Talkgroup Page, ensure that the TG WACN ID, the TG System ID and the Talkgroup ID are set to their appropriate values for each talkgroup defined in the list. See also Working Group ID (WGID).

6. For each Trunking Personality's Announcement Group Page, ensure that the AG WACN ID, the AG System ID and the Announcement Group ID are set to their appropriate values for the Announcement Group defined for that Personality.

7. For each Trunking Personality's Preferred Sites Page, ensure that the RAS WACN ID, the System ID, the RFSS ID, and the Site ID are set to their appropriate values for each Site in a multi-site system. On Systems using the "Inter-WACN Roaming" Coverage Type, Sites in this list are identified by the combination of these four IDs.

If a Site is not listed, then that Site will have no preference.

A Site found within the home WACN / Trunking System will have a default Preferred Status of "Preferred", meaning that Site will be preferred if their RSSI polling samples are at least as strong as the current Site's.
